Reflections Overview For Families and Students
Welcome to the WSPTA Reflections program!
Reflections is a National PTA arts recognition program that helps students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence, and detect a love for learning that will help them become more successful not merely in school, but in life.
Students in pre-Yard through class 12 create original works of art in response to a theme. The theme for the 2021-2022 programme twelvemonth is I Will Change The Globe By… Students submit their completed works of art in ane, or all, of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Motion picture Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts.
While the primary focus of Reflections is a celebration of creativity through positive recognition, finalists from local PTAs will movement on to their council PTA (if applicable), then finalists from councils will move on to the land circular. Washington Land PTA finalists who receive an "Outstanding Interpretation" accolade will accelerate to the National PTA circular. National PTA Reflections awards for 2020-2021 tin exist found hither.

Program Details
Immature artists become involved through their local PTA or PTSA. A student may submit an entry in any of six arts areas. Only original works of art are accustomed. The six art areas are:
- Literature – works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prose, drama, brusk stories and lyrics.
- Music Composition – original musical composition, with or without words.
- Photography: colour or black and white, included techniques: photogram, negative sandwich, and multiple exposure.
- Visual Arts: cartoon, painting in tempera, oil, acrylic, watercolor & t-shirt paints, computer generated fine art, 2-dimensional collage, printmaking, needlework & leather tooling.
- Picture/Video: original works, with or without audio, of animation, narrative, documentary, experimental or music video/picture.
- Choreography/Dance: originally choreographed dance composition.
Participation is organized by student historic period and grade levels. Pupil works are critiqued against others in the aforementioned grade division. This allows recognition and judging of artworks past appropriate developmental historic period and skill levels. The class divisions are:
- Primary: Preschool – Form 2
- Intermediate: Grades iii – v
- Middle School: Grades 6 – 8
- Loftier School: Grades 9 – 12
Entries are judged on creative ability and interpretation of the theme.
All PTAs/PTSAs in skilful continuing may sponsor the programme. Students may just submit entries through a PTA/PTSA. Parent groups not affiliated with the National PTA are not eligible to sponsor this programme.

Special Artist Division
The National PTA special artist division is an selection for students with a disability as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act(ADA). Mostly, rules and guidelines inside the special artists division are intended to ensure accessibility to the National PTA Reflections® program and are modeled later the guidelines outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Theme Search Competition
Each year, National PTA seeks a theme for the Reflections program year to be held 2 years from at present. This year students are asked to submit a theme for the 2023-2024 program year. The due date for submitting a theme search entry was Nov i, 2021. The student who submits the winning entry will receive $100 and his or her theme will be presented at the almanac National PTA Convention in June 2022. Repeat themes will not be considered. Theme Search Event
During the Theme Search Contest, students from beyond the state submit unique theme suggestions to their country PTAs, who then select upwards to five finalist themes and send them to National PTA. One time the submissions accomplish National PTA, volunteer leaders deport multiple stages of review. These reviewers narrow the wide field of artistic entries to just one by searching for a theme that is original, inspiring, focused and widely applicable. It is not an piece of cake task!

Who tin can enter the art plan, Reflections®?
Reflections is a National PTA arts competition open up to students in grades pre-Thousand through 12th grade. Do children have to sign the entry form?
Yes. The entry form must be signed by the submitting student (even if it is but a printed beginning name) and the pupil's parent/guardian. If the pupil is at to the lowest degree 18 years quondam, only the educatee must sign. Electronic signatures are allowed.
What does "rigid backing" mean for visual arts and photography entries?
This means that the entry must exist mounted in a manner that information technology cannot be folded, rolled, or bent. Acceptable backing includes: foam core, printing lath, canvas board, cardboard (solid piece, no seams or folds), and thick mat board. The thickness must not exceed one/two inches.
How practice I submit a 3-D entry?
Check with your local PTA and quango to find out if they would like the actual 3D slice or just pictures of the piece. If a 3D entry is moved on to the country-level, three photos will be submitted electronically through the submission system. Instructions for how to submit photos are found in the Visual Arts Student Entry Parcel.
What are the recommendations for quality recordings?
Make the room yous record in equally quiet as possible. Close windows and plough off all noise-making devices in the room (air conditioners, fans, telephones, etc.). Do not identify the recording device on pinnacle of an instrument or speakers. If needed, ameliorate recording quality by changing the record volume or microphone location. If an entrant creates an entry that includes Mickey Mouse as a master subject field in the artwork, that entry would be infringing on copyrighted material and would exist disqualified.

Why are there so many rules? Isn't Reflections a plan to encourage kids to be artistic?
Since the main goal of Reflections is to promote creativity, the plan'southward rules create the necessary boundaries to permit judging, exhibits, and awards.
Most of the rules associated with the Reflections plan have been developed to protect pupil creations once they've been turned in and provide the ability for artwork to be displayed. A scattering of volunteers are tasked with moving large numbers of artwork from place to place, and nosotros treasure each cosmos.
